2016 Teen Conference

Thank you to all who joined us on June 29th, 2016 to connect, learn & have fun at Thomas College in Waterville, Maine!

The 26th Annual Teen Conference for youth in Maine’s Child Welfare System and the adults who care for them was held on June 29, 2016 at Thomas College. One-hundred-forty individuals attended this year’s conference, themed “#FosterStrong”. Our keynote speaker, George Duvall shared his experience of navigating the system with passion and was filled with positive encouragement, emotion, education and of course, humor. Young people who attended the conference stated that they had the opportunity to learn that leadership skills, that their voice is important and that they are not alone.

We were very excited for Jim Martin, Director of Child and Family Services, Maine DHHS to be on-hand to sign the Normalcy Bill of Rights.

Morning Team Building helped set the tone of #FosterStrong!

Workshops included “Drumming & Strumming”, “Financially Fit”, “College Dreams” among others.

A powerful, inspiring, and entertaining keynote and workshop were led by George Duvall. Each year George speaks to thousands of youth, foster parents and others drawing from his personal experience of 15 years in foster care. Learn more about George and his own story at georgeduvallspeaks.com.

The afternoon’s wellness fair hosted community partners and aimed to help inform and educate youth on topics including nutrition, physical fitness, self-care, and access to healthcare.

This year’s Photo Booth sure captured some fun moments!
